Magic potion
Asterix and the Banquet
Prepublication in the comic magazine Pilote in 1963
Original publication 1965 – Plate 19
Out of betrayal, Asterix is captured and imprisoned in Divodurum, the old name for Metz. Not as stupid as one would like to believe, Obelix manages to track him down, easily gets himself imprisoned (he knocks out a Roman legionary especially for this purpose) and makes his friend drink a few sips of magic potion. The effect is immediate!
Between a spectacular demonstration of strength by one and the quirky and outlandish ideas of the other, the duo’s alchemy is fully on display here. In many ways it is yet another unparalleled magic potion.
